Elaine started her teaching career at a mainstream school where she worked as an educator for two years. After specializing in education for Learners with Individual Educational needs, at the University of the Western Cape, Elaine accepted a post at a Centre for learners with Cerebral Palsy and spent the next five years there. This was truly where her love and passion for working with learners experiencing educational challenges was confirmed. “I will always be grateful for this opportunity I received and for the insight and valuable experience I gained during these five years that I decided to continue my journey as an educator, working with learners experiencing challenges with learning.”

After these five years she was appointed principal of another school for learners with individual learning needs where she spent the next twelve years. Yet another major learning curve. Here she had the opportunity to work with the Department of Education, the Governing Body of the school, architects, quantity surveyors and builders to plan and build a new school for the learners. After twelve amazing years her family relocated to Durban.

In Durban she once again joined a school for learners with Cerebral Palsy and Autism. Elaine worked here for the next five years just gaining more experience of the needs in education. After these five years, the family moved to Pretoria, Centurion. Here Elaine found a teaching post at an Academy for Remedial Education and was appointed deputy principal. She worked alongside a team with a vast variety of expertise, sharing information and broadening horizons to the benefit of the learners. After twelve unbelievable years Elaine made her final change in her career. Sulati, a Centre for learners with Autism and various other Learning needs, was her next move. Five and a half years have passed by in a flash.
